The Spanish DELE (Diplomas de Espanol como Lengua Extranjera or Diplomas in Spanish as a Foreign Language) examinations for 2013 were held at the INaWORD Adyar Centre between November 22nd and 24th. In the 3rd year of their conduct in Chennai, the DELE exams this year witnessed a record number of registrations, with 65 candidates signing up, a significant increase over 39 registrations in 2012.
This increase in DELE candidates reflects the growing popularity of Spanish as a language, and in fact, in the DELE exams themselves, which are the premier international standard for proficiency in Spanish as a foreign language. Candidates from all walks of life, including school and college students, housewives and working professionals participated. Apart from 40 INaWORD students, who have attended Spanish classes at either the Adyar or Anna Nagar Centre, there were candidates from different parts of India and the sub-continent, including Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Salem, Puducherry and Nepal.
The examinations were conducted across 5 of the 6 CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) levels – A1, A2, B1, B2 and C1, ranging from learners at the beginner level (A1) to candidates with a high level of fluency (C1). The examinations assessed language skills across disciplines – reading comprehension, written competencies, listening comprehension, grammar and vocabulary and oral skills. Worldwide DELE results for the November 2013 session will be available by February 2014.
INaWORD would like to thank all candidates for their enthusiastic participation in this year’s Spanish DELE exam, and looks forward to even greater representation in the next year’s Chennai session, to be held in November 2014.
INaWORD has been the official DELE examination centre for Chennai from January 2011 onwards, appointed by Instituto Cervantes, representing the Government of Spain.
